On March 26, 1991 the Khowutzun Heritage Centre was incorporated under the Company Act. The Centre was developed as a heritage attraction to educate and entertain local, national and international visitors, on the customs and heritage of the Cowichan First Nation. The Centre houses exhibits of artefacts and demonstrations of the arts and crafts of the Cowichan People. The Centre also offers a seasonally operational Riverwalk Café that features traditional and contemporary native cuisine on the banks of the Cowichan River. In an effort to improve shoulder season revenues KHC diversified the product/service offerings and introduce itself as a fully functional conference centre providing a facility for meetings, workshops and conferences and conference and event catering services. The Khowutzun Heritage Centre operates year round and has built a reputation for being a leader in the Aboriginal tourism industry for Canada.
